Local company, Walford Timber, has installed roof-mounted solar panels as part of its sustainability ambitions, and in doing so hopes to reduce its reliance on the National Grid by over 40%.

It’s estimated that the 154KwP scheme will achieve a decrease in C02 emissions by approximately 25 Tonnes per year.

The scheme uses state-of-the-art SolarEdge technology, allowing each of the 402 solar panels to run at their optimum level, as well as providing unrivalled real time data on their performance.

Commenting on the scheme, George Smith, Managing Director of Walford Timber, said: “As a business supplying sustainable and renewable materials, it seemed only right that we should choose renewable energy to power our premises. This scheme is a major investment for us and will help us reduce our reliance on the grid, and therefore reduce our carbon footprint substantially.

“We are really excited to see how the scheme performs over the years and the impact that this will have. We hope that being both environmentally sustainable and commercially sustainable can go hand in hand and this is a big step towards that.”

The project has received £52,239.13 of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014 – 2020. The Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government is the Managing Authority for the European Regional Development Fund. Established by the European Union, the European Regional Development Fund helps local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support innovation, businesses, create jobs and local community regeneration.
