Two gold medals for Ross-on-Wye dancer
Natalie Morgan-Dew, who teaches dance at her Ross-on-Wye studio, Mizz Twisted Cherry, competed in USA Pole Sport competitions on 5th February, and won two gold medals and a bronze.
This is a fantastic achievement considering just before Christmas Natalie fractured her foot and had to wear a boot for a number of weeks.
Natalie told Ross-on-line: “I have never broken anything in my life, and the fact my business relies on me teaching and demonstrating gravity defying moves, this was tricky to navigate but I made it work and my foot recovered quickly.”
After Christmas she decided, as motivation to recover, to enter the Aquarius virtual competitions run by Pole sports organisation in America. Since lockdown they have created virtual championships, which have proved very popular, and as a result they are now continuing with them. This means competitors are from all over the world.
The categories Natalie entered were more about fluidity and movement than tricks. Natalie said: “I would class my usual performances as more trick based, and my overall performance much more tongue in cheek and humorous, which I derive from my world champion burlesque performances. So this was a big challenge for me as I had to use the pole within the dance aspect and create a fluid performance.
“I am so pleased with the results after my break, and as I am currently recovering from covid it has been a really big boost.”
2022 has so far provided success for the studio as Mizz Twisted Cherry are finalists in the National Family Network Business Recognition Awards, where they have been shortlisted from hundreds of applications for Small Business of the Year, and Natalie for Business Mum of the Year. The final will be in Birmingham in March.
Natalie said: “I feel extremely proud and lucky to be able to advocate for this sport and also put this county on the map internationally.”
