As part of their ongoing online learning in their Art lessons, Key Stage 3 students at JKHS were asked to research the work of Lisa Lloyd’s paper birds to produce their own paper bird sculptures. The work of Harrison and Zack Lawrence received a comment by the artist herself.
Explaining the process, Zack said: “Firstly I made a sturdy frame from a cereal box, then wrapped the frame in normal paper. After I added quilling paper to make the tail and wings. Finally I coloured the pieces of paper black to match the colour of a magpie and added some different shape tail feathers.”
“I created the frame with cardboard and wrapped it with quilling paper to make its body thicker. Next I started gluing on all the colours needed for the blue jay (blue, white, grey, black) to make it look as good as I could. When I finished the body, I glued the colours to the wings and tail and did some final touches,” added Harrison.
The artist herself saw the boys’ work on social media and said it was “amazing”, a well deserved accolade.
