Ross-on-Wye couple spend day in Ukraine helping refugees
Ross-on-Wye residents, Katie and Neil Fowler, have spent the day in Ukraine today helping at one of the refugee camps in Chernivtsi.
Katie, Neil, and their team, Diana, Keith and Vilius left last Saturday to deliver donations that had been collected at Kts Craft Warehouse in Ross-on-Wye, and following a long journey they arrived in Romania on Monday. Yesterday they crossed the border into Ukraine where they stayed at the Mayor’s of Chernivtsi house overnight before visiting the refugee camp this morning.
The children at the makeshift nursery are in good spirits, although they did express their wish to go home.
Katie has been told some harrowing stories including a family who had to go through 12 Russian checkpoints to leave Mariupol. Their homes have now been taken over and used by Russian forces.
Katie has been the driving force behind the collection of donations in Ross-on-Wye and wanted to take it one step further by visiting the country and its people these donations are helping. Herself and the team will be making their way back to the UK over the coming days.
