Ross Juniors Football Club donate kits to Diepsloot, Johannesburg
Ross Juniors Football Club have continued their philanthropy with donations of excess old football kits, this time to Diepsloot, Johannesburg in South Africa.
A spokesperson said: “This came about by pure chance as Carole Tate who takes part in the parkrun, was helping out at the Sports Centre with the clean-up operation following the storms. She spoke to the club chairman Jim Loftus explaining she was a volunteer aid worker and was soon to depart to Johannesburg.
“Kit was quickly sorted for Carole and as the picture shows it was received with great enthusiasm by the local youngsters. Diepsloot is a township on the northern side of Johannesburg, where in the township may of the homes are small shacks sometimes with families with up to 4 children. The things that we take for granted like electricity and water are very intermittent in the township Carole said. The children have no football pitch to play on so they play in the streets in their bare feet.
“Carole went on to say the lockdown in Johannesburg is a lot more severe than what we are encountering in the UK and no one is allowed out of their gardens. Carole also said she lucky enough to get the last plane out of Johannesburg to London last week.”
Ross Juniors FC will be sending more old kit via Carole to Diepsloot when she returns after the coronavirus.
