The new Walford Community Support Scheme Hub was officially opened by Baroness Pitkeathley and David Emerson CBE at the end of July.

Both gave enlightening and entertaining speeches on the importance of community spaces and support schemes like the WCSS.

A fantastic evening was enjoyed by WCSS members and many local guests, also welcoming Talk Community, local social prescriber and ward councillor. Castlebrook Sparkling Wine from the Chinn family and delicious strawberries from E C Drummond were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

The Hub is located at Walford Village Hall where the Trustees have kindly provided the room free of charge to the WCSS. The interior of the room has been totally transformed by two talented volunteers, Bob Puzey and Mic O’Brien, into an inviting and welcoming space where all members can enjoy socialising together.

Many other volunteers have dedicated their time to the outside area – tidying the raised beds, cleaning the decking area and mowing the lawn allowing members to enjoy the fresh air on the covered decking area.

Grateful thanks went to Howdens in Ross for the donation of a new kitchen area and to Bradfords who donated all the decorating materials.

The work of the Walford Community Support Scheme is to forge community spirit and improve the lives and well-being of its’ residents – it is run by the parishioners for parishioners.

With the easing of restrictions, they will now be able to offer the community the opportunity to socialise in the newly converted Community Hub and become part of a sustainable community – one where everyone can thrive and flourish. They will bring together members of the scheme for coffee mornings, community lunches, gardening activities, craft sessions and well-being sessions. They aim to support members with IT skills, and through links with Talk Community the members will be able to access health and well-being information, as well as connecting with other services and groups.

The scheme is open to all residents of the Walford Parish irrespective of age. If you know anyone who may benefit from the support they offer, or if you would like to become a volunteer member, then please contact the co-ordinator on 07493171430.
