NEWS | Volunteers from a number of organisations team up to share ideas on how to make walking more accessible in Ross-on-Wye
Volunteers from six different organisations recently teamed up for a training day to share their skills and help make walking more accessible around Ross on Wye.
As part of the Miles without Stiles project, led by Ross Walkers are Welcome with support from the Wye Valley AONB, 27 landowners have agreed to remove old stiles and replace them with new gates, helping to make these paths easier for everyone to enjoy.
Stiles are a major barrier for people with mobility issues and for dogs who cannot jump over them.
Sharing their knowledge and skills the volunteers from Ross Walkers are Welcome, Herefordshire Ramblers, Parish Councils Footpaths Officers and EnviroAbility made light work installing the first of the 41 new gates that will replace old wooden stiles on local footpaths.
With 40 more gates to be installed you might see volunteers out and about over the next couple of months, so do stop and say ‘Hello’!
Their hard work is helping to open up the countryside for everyone to enjoy. If you would like to Volunteer or find out more about the Miles without Stiles project contact community@wyevalleyaonb.org.uk
The project has been funded by DEFRA through an uplift in core funding to the Wye Valley AONB of £60K.
