A local councillor has responded to concerns from members of the public, after a Willow tree was pollarded in Ross-on-Wye.
Councillor Daniel Lister shared the following piece on social media, after being told of concerns from members of the public.
Cllr Lister said:
“After being asked a few times and seeing a public post regarding the willow around the river and rope walk I thought I’d share this information I was given when asked to reply to a concerned resident.
“After a tree survey was compleated by a qualified staff memeber it was said it needed to be pollarded along with others, this is to reduce the weight as per rejuvenate maintenance which has to done on a site click basis.
“There are a few being done in Ross and this will encourage growth and the life span of the tree, it was explained to me the limbs are like an elbow socket and after a while the weight could snap off the limbs.
“I know it looks harsh now but it will regrow as they have done before after the same maintenance programme.
“I’m informed they need doing every 3 to 5 years dependant on the growth and weight of the growth.
“I understand there will be different opinions on it and all concerns can be sent over to the town council offices,
“Hope this helps and don’t forget if you have any concerns please just shout, I’m here to help.”
