Just the Job for year 7 students at John Kyrle
Year 7 students at John Kyrle High School have taken part in a competition inspired by Patricia Thomas the High Sheriff of Herefordshire 2020-2021.
‘Just the Job’ was open to year 6 and 7 students throughout Herefordshire. There were three ways to enter: writing, drawing or filming why you are the correct person for the career idea you chose.
The initiative made students think about ‘power skills’ – those skills which employers are looking for as well as making students think about how they obtain those skills for example from volunteering, youth theatre, brownies or cadets.
The year 7 students at John Kyrle embraced the competition and relished the opportunity to get to work with their own ideas. The year 7 tutor team delivered the initiative working through the informative resource book provided by Patricia which was bursting with career ideas, power skills collated from a number of employers as well as lots of interesting case studies of young people employed locally.
Isabelle Wood won first prize for year 7 in the Art section. Isabelle wrote about why she wanted to be a paramedic and illustrated it with beautiful artwork. Isabelle won a £50 book token.
Alexis Green came second for the year 7 Art section – Alexis wrote about why she wanted to be a sports coach and again illustrated it beautifully. Alexis won a £25 book token.
