2020 will certainly be a year to remember for so many different reasons.
Although a difficult year starting with the floods then onto Covid, it’s still definitely one to be proud of in terms of the strong community spirit and support we have given each other. It has been so warming to watch us stand up as a community offering help and support at every hurdle for each other. It is something that I’ve come to learn, as other have I’m sure, that Ross is extremely good at community spirit. A massive thank you from me, and a high five virtual of course. Be proud Ross-on-Wye, you are all amazing and without you it would have been a very different year.
We have also seen the town and our independent businesses go from strength to strength this year with many new businesses opening during the pandemic. 8 at my last count, and two of those expanding to larger premises, and so many more embracing the online shopping experience with a positive impact. I really believe our town will continue to go from strength to strength with your support, traders hard work and of course our love for shopping local and independent.
The beginning and ongoing support from Ross-on-line keeping us all connected and up-to-date with the news and volunteering opportunities can not go unnoticed, nor can the like of the Facebook groups, Ross Notice Boards 1 & 2 ,which I am sure being an admin of is no easy task, when so many have taken to social media to reach out. And of course William Henderson with his wonderful photos from the sky and his menus website, these are just to name a few of those that have helped and brought some joy to 2020. I must also mention the amazing work from all the volunteers that have kept out beautiful town connected and offered support though 2020.
Now Christmas is upon us I wish you all a warm and happy Christmas. Thank you all for the support to each other and I wish you a happy New Year, however that may pan out, but I am sure we can make it special! Lets hope we can get back on track for 2021 and see the town full of events to enjoy once again.
Keep safe and keep smiling with Christmas cheer.
Your Mayor, Cllr Daniel Lister
