West Mercia Police have issued a warning after an elderly Ross-on-Wye resident was targeted in a scam today.

Fraudsters posed as a DS Shelby from Hertfordshire Police on a phone call and tried to gain access to bank details. Luckily no details were given.

Police are asking residents to be aware of this scam and to warn any elderly relatives.

PCSO David Alexander said: “An elderly Ross-on-Wye resident has today received calls from a male claiming to be DS Shelby from Hertfordshire police. During a 2hr phone call he tried to gain access to their bank account and went as far as booking them a taxi to the bank to withdraw money. The resident attended their bank but luckily no money was withdrawn and no account details given out. West Mercia Police Police were made aware by a concerned relative.

“This is a scam – please make elderly relatives and neighbours aware.”
