Ross-on-Wye Remembrance Parade cancelled

Due to the current coronavirus restrictions The Ross and District Branch of the Royal British Legion have taken the tough decision to cancel this year’s Remembrance Parade and make changes to the traditional wreath laying.
There will still be a Church Service taking place which, due to the limit on attendees, will be live streamed on both the St Mary’s Church and Ross-on-line Facebook pages. Ross-on-line will also be broadcasting the small Prospect Service live on our Facebook page.
The branch are asking those organisations and members of the public who usually lay a wreath at the war memorial to please do so between 2nd and 7th November at a time that suits them.
The full statement from the Ross and District Branch of the Royal British Legion:
“Following numerous discussions with regards to the current restrictions and the upcoming Remembrance events, we have agreed that this year we will unfortunately be unable to have all wreath layers at the prospect on Remembrance Day.
“Currently we are only allowed 6 people on the prospect. Sadly, this also means there will be no parade this year.
“We have agreed that it is still vital that organisations lay a wreath for Remembrance, but this needs to be done safely and in line with the current guidelines.
“We will ask all wreath layers to lay their wreath between 2nd November to 7th November at a time that suits them. This will ensure that we have enough space on the Prospect for remembrance. We ask that all wreaths be laid on the corners and back of the Monument.
“On the day only the Town Council and the Royal British Legion wreaths with be laid at the service. This will save time and keep a lot of people safe. The service will be broadcast live via the Ross-on-line Facebook page.
“The Church Service will be going ahead, however this will be limited in numbers. We will have more information on this very soon. For those who will be unable to attend there will be a live stream of the service on Facebook available via the St Mary’s Church and Ross-on-line pages.
“We thank you for your understanding and support.”
