International success for John Kyrle student
Following her win at the UK competition for the Lions Peace Poster Competition, John Kyrle High School student, Martha Gilson, has been awarded a Merit Prize in the International Finals held in Chicago, USA.
Approximately 600,000 children from 55 countries participated in this year’s Peace Poster Contest. The posters were judged at the club, district and multiple district levels before reaching the international level, at which point they had been narrowed down to 109 posters.
Based on creativity, originality and the portrayal of the theme ‘We Are All Connected’. Ross Lions Club’s entry was chosen as one of 23 merit award winners.
Martha will receive a personal prize of 500 US$ and a Certificate of Merit. In describing her thoughts Martha wrote: “We are all connected by our similarities underneath everything and peace comes from recognising that. Peace is the glue that holds us all together”
Ross Lions Youth Officer, Nick Dale, was delighted to be able to celebrate with Martha, together with the Head of Art, Ms Davies, and Headteacher, Mr Burton.
Nick said: “To be chosen as one of just 23 merit award winners from across the world is indeed a superb honour for all involved. Ross Lions would particularly like to thank the Art Staff of JKHS for all their support of this Lions International Competition and promotion of the theme of World Peace.”
