Herefordshire Council has given the go-ahead for repairs to be carried out at Ashfield Park Primary School, Ross-on-Wye, to replace the deteriorated roofing materials on two school halls.

The planned works, costing just over £185k are part of an overall local authority school buildings maintenance works (2021-23) programme, approved by cabinet on 17th December 2020. The programme will see DfE funding used to improve the facilities at a number of Herefordshire schools, including Ashfield Park, following in depth condition surveys on local authority owned school buildings.

Following a tender process the contract for the work has been awarded to a local company, Central Roofing & Building Services Ltd.

The essential maintenance will be carried out before the winter with as little disruption as possible.

Councillor Gemma Davies, Herefordshire Council Cabinet Member for Commissioning, Procurement and Assets, said: “I’m pleased that these essential works at Ashfield Park Primary School will now go ahead and will be carried out by a local contractor. This investment demonstrates our commitment to education and providing high quality facilities for learning for Herefordshire children.”

Steven Kendrick, Headteacher at Ashfield Park Primary School, added: “I’m really pleased that this final phase of our roof repairs will take place before winter time. Ashfield Park is an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ school and provides a high level of education, so it’s only fitting that the school facilities are also of a high standard for our pupils.

“We will keep parents fully informed about the timescale of the works and disruption to an absolute minimum for our pupils and staff.”
